Head Instructor
Owen Brooks (3rd Dan JKA)

Sensei Owen began training in 1981 at the age of 15 with Sensei Mike Connolly at Inala in Brisbane under the Japan Karate Association of Australia (JKA Australia) and the guidance of Shunsuke Takahashi Sensei from Japan.

(1972 was when the Australian Shotokan Karate Association was accepted for membership of the JKA in Japan and the name was later changed to JKA Australia.)
(Sadly Sensei Mike died in 2013, Sensei Mike was a founder of the JKA here in Australia and was very well respected by JKA HQ instructors including the late Nakayama Shihan)

Sensei Owen then began his own electrical contracting business in 1990 and later joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 2002 with multiple deployments including to Afghanistan and IRAQ (He was medically discharged in 2022 at the rank of Flight Sergeant E-8).

Karate training was very sporadic over this period and he returned to full time training in 2017 under Sensei Mark Szalajko tutelage at Bujutsu Martial Arts in NSW.

JKA Townsville Dojo was founded in 2020 with support from Sensei Jason Naylor and Sensei Mark Szalajko.

Sensei Owen is presently the Secretary for JKA WF Australia and a member of Karate Australia and Karate Queensland.
